Some clinics, such as the Trauma Clinic and the Clinic for Tumours
worked fully because of the specific nature of their duties but they
supported the strike, the HLS said.
Because of its specific nature the strike is being implemented in
such a way that patients are being cared for in line with union
instructions on the professional behaviour of doctors during the
strike.
According to verbal reports by commissioners in the field, the
Health Ministry is pressuring hospital chiefs of staff because they
are acting in line with the law and not banning the strike, the HLS
claims in its statement.
The HLS harshly protested and stressed that it would not allow such
behaviour towards chiefs of staff who were not doing anything
unlawfully.
The HLS forwarded a letter to Health Minister Andro Vlahusic saying
that it had informed the Ministry and hospital chiefs of staff about
the absolutely necessary tasks that doctors need to perform during
the strike.
The Health Ministry forwarded a letter on Sunday to all health
institutions in Croatia in which it pointed out that the strike
which was postponing duties and obstructing tasks was not a legal
form of striking and that sort of behaviour was a serious violation
of working duties which could result in dismissals.
Doctors participating in the strike are conducting the duties that
were announced that would not be disturbed during the strike, the
HLS pointed out and rejected Vlahusic's reference to any criminal
responsibility because the strike was announced in advance and
organised according to the law.
In its letter, the union warned minister Vlahusic of his illegal
threats to dismiss doctors and in that regard the union announced
that it would instigate criminal proceedings.
