BELGRADE, Jan 19 (Hina) - The Yugoslav military is not competent in
any way for former Bosnian Serb commander Ratko Mladic or its former
senior officer Veselin Sljivancanin, who have been accused of war
crimes by the U.N. tribunal in The Hague, chief-of-staff General
Branko Krga said on Sunday. #L#
"They are not members of the Yugoslav Army, which was said clearly
to chief prosecutor Carla Del Ponte," he told the BK television
station.
Krga added the Yugoslav military "doesn't guard the accused nor has
any jurisdiction whatsoever in connection with the possibility of
them being under surveillance or arrested". The Army is not in
direct contact with the Hague tribunal either and only acts on
demands from the Yugoslav council for cooperation with the
tribunal, he said.
