that now is the right time for raising the question about the status
of Kosovo, given that it has been transforming into an "independent
state", according to him. #L#
That is why Serbia asks the European Union that principles of the
Dayton peace accords, which stopped the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina,
be applied on Serbia as well, Djindjic said at a news conference on
Thursday.
The Serbian PM said that in the last two years the opinion prevailed
that one should await and not raise that question. However, "the
time of waiting" is over, as Kosovo is the venue of processes which
are virtually turning the province into a country which will at one
time be legally recognised, he added.
"In two years' time it will be more difficult than today to deny that
process. Therefore I insist that now a discussion on Kosovo's final
status begin, given that today it is more difficult to say that
Kosovo will be independent than it will be in two years' time,"
Djindjic said.
Serbian authorities ask the EU to be engaged in bids to solve the
Kosovo issue and to apply the Dayton agreement's principles on the
inviolability of borders and on collective rights of ethnic
communities.
