The university board decided at a closed-door session to hold
another meeting with the Italian Union leaders to discuss the
organisation's programme of cultural activities. University
officials expressed readiness to establish cooperation with the
Union based on the opinion of competent bodies at the Italian
Foreign Ministry.
The Trieste university's administrative board was expected to
discuss the future financing of the Italian Union, which receives
funding from the Italian government through the university.
Last week Zilli called on the university's administrative board to
resign, accusing it of taking part in the adoption of "a unilateral,
illegitimate, unfounded and unacceptable decision on the
discontinuation of financial assistance for the Union's cultural
and education activities".
