Croatian literary historian and translator, Miroslav Beker, died
in Zagreb on Sunday. #L#
Beker, born in Karlovac in 1926, became an assistant lecturer at the
English literature department at Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb in
1954. He earned a doctor's degree in 1961 in the field of the English
literary criticism. From 1996 to 1968 he was a visiting professor at
several universities in the United States.
He worked in the English literature department of the Zagreb
Faculty of Philosophy from 1954 to 1971 when he transferred to the
comparative literature department and he was there a full professor
until his retirement in 1996.
He wrote several books, essays and studies.
The funeral of professor Beker is scheduled for 3 January in the
Mirogoj cemetery.
