ZAGREB, Jan 8 (Hina) - Croatia's Catholic weekly Glas Koncila
believes it is necessary to discover the real motives behind the
horrible crime which took place in the village of Kostajnica (the
Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina) on Christmas Eve when the
Croatian Catholic family Andjelic was suddenly attacked in their
home and three members were murdered. #L#
In the editorial headlined "Why are political motives being hushed
up?", the latest issue of the weekly says the impression is that
efforts are being made to divert public attention from the idea that
political motives could have been crucial in that crime and to make
the public believe the motives were ideological or non-ethnic --
the blame is being put on religion, this time Islam.
"However, the irrefutable fact is that not a single true believer,
Muslim, Christian or any other, can in any circumstances commit a
crime motivated by his religion. Therefore, it is not fair to attach
religious motives to his crime, not even in cases when one turns his
religion into an ideology and then acts on this ideology, because
the one who turns religion into an ideology has stopped being a true
believer," the daily said.
The daily also said that the crime in Kostajnica was a strong and
dramatic message to all faithful to remain true to their authentic
religious belief and to never allow, no matter how subtle the
attempts are, to be manipulated by any policy or ideology.
