ZAGREB/RIJEKA, Dec 16 (Hina) - On the second anniversary of the signing of an agreement on the project for integration of Druzba-Adria oil pipeline, some 70 protesters from nongovernmental organisations in Zagreb requested of the government to walk out of the Druzba-Adria agreement, signed by the former government, which, as they say, is detrimental for Croatia.

Carrying banners saying "No To Druzba-Adria", "My Adriatic, Be Well and Oil Free!", about 70 protesters from ecological and Catholic associations, who gathered in front of Sheraton Hotel where the deal was singed, requested the government to withdraw from the Druzba Adria project while it was not to late.

MPs Anto Djapic and Tonci Tadic of the Croatian Party of Rights, who advocated Croatia's withdrawing from the Druzba Adria project in parliament, and presidential candidate Boris Miksic, joined the protesters.

The nongovernmental ecological association Green Action staged a rally earlier today at Cvjetni Square in downtown Zagreb, protesting against the project.

A street performance called "The Wedding Of The Oil And The Sea" was held in the northern Adriatic city of Rijeka. The Rijeka-based ecological movement -- Open Circle -- asked that a referendum be held to enable citizens of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County to voice their opinion whether or not they wanted the Druzba Adria project in their vicinity.

The Druzba Adria project foresees the transport of oil from Russian oil plants to Omisalj via pipelines. The agreement on the project was signed by several countries through which the oil would be transported.
