SUBOTICA, Dec 7 (Hina) - The situation at the border between Serbia and Montenegro and Croatia is stable and no serious border incidents have been registered despite the fact that the border has not yet been defined, the Novi Sad-based Dnevnik daily on Tuesday cited Serbia and Montenegro Defence Minister Prvoslav Davinic as saying.

Answering questions about the security of the state border with Croatia, Davinic said in parliament that the number of border regime violations was dropping.

According to him, 577 people who tried to illegally cross the border were arrested in 2001. In 2002 the number dropped to 77, in 2003 to 43, while this year 20 people were arrested while trying to illegally cross the state border.

Minister Davinic said the state border was established in 1992, after the break-up of the former Yugoslavia.

The border with Croatia has not been entirely defined, the border line has not been properly marked, and the two countries have not yet signed an agreement on the state border, the daily said.
