Two Serbia and Montenegro citizens, who took photographs of themselves in downtown Zagreb on Saturday bearing the image of convicted WWII war criminal and Chetnik leader Draza Mihailovic, were sentenced on Sunday to 15 and five days' imprisonment for disturbing public peace and order, exceptionally impudent behaviour, and insulting citizens' moral feelings.
The third person involved in the incident was released because it was not proved that she had taken part in the offence.
The two convicted will serve their sentences at Remetinec prison. They may lodge appeals with the Senior Magistrate's Court in Zagreb.
The Serbia and Montenegro Foreign Ministry issued a statement today saying that Croatia had responded "undemocratically and inappropriately" when it arrested and convicted the two students. It said it would ask that they be released.
Sources at the Serbia and Montenegro Embassy told Hina they would help their country's citizens and use all legal means at their disposal.
Senior Commercial Court president Zeljko Potocki told Hina later in the day that this court had not received an appeal by the two students and could not decide about it today.
