BANJA LUKA, Dec 1 (Hina) - The president of the Serbian parliament, Predrag Markovic, has said that UN tribunal indictee Ratko Mladic is out of the reach of Serbian police and that there are no indications that he is in the territory of Serbia and Montenegro, as well as that all persons who fail to surrender voluntarily and whose whereabouts are known to the police, would be arrested.

"A number of measures is being taken in cooperation with international forces to check reports about areas where Mladic is believed to be hiding. The investigation has shown that Mladic is not hiding in those areas," Markovic said in an interview with Banja Luka's "Nezavisne novine" daily of Wednesday.

He confirmed that the negative assessment of Serbia and Montenegro's cooperation with the tribunal by its chief prosecutor Carla del Ponte had resulted in stepping up cooperation with the tribunal.

"The next step is the arrest of individuals," said Markovic, who met the president of the Bosnian Serb parliament, Dusan Stojicic, in Banja Luka on Tuesday, and signed a joint statement urging all indictees of the UN war crimes tribunal to surrender voluntarily.
