Sanader said he had received assurances from the Polish prime minister that Poland would support Croatia in its efforts to ensure that next month the European Union set a date for the start of membership talks with Croatia.
Sanader announced that he would send a letter to the prime ministers of all EU member states to inform them of the progress Croatia was making in meeting the membership criteria and that Croatia expected the EU to fix a date for the start of entry talks.
"I will not mention just the progress of Croatia, but also the fact that the process of enlargement must not stop because of other processes in Southeast Europe. The matter should be seen in a wider context," Sanader said after his meeting with Belka.
The CEI Presidency expressed its concern over the situation in Ukraine following Sunday's presidential election, while Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel said he did not rule out the possibility of the run-off election being repeated.
