WASHINGTON/ NEW YORK, Nov 16 (Hina) - A report by Bosnian Serb on Serb crimes against Bosnian Muslims (Bosniaks) in Srebrenica requires measures against the perpetrators of the massacre in that Bosnian town, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said on Monday.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Annan hailed conclusions from the report by the authorities of the Bosnian Serb entity about the massacre against Muslims in Srebrenica in 1995, notably an apology for the crime and words of condolence to the families of the Srebrenica victims.

The authorities of Republika Srpska and their Commission for investigating into the events in Srebrenica have set an example of how to deal with a painful war history -- by facing the truth about the events during the conflict in Bosnia-Herzegovina, spokesman Fred Eckhard said.

He said this was a brave act which contributed to the building of trust and reconciliation among peoples in Bosnia.

Eckhard said Annan expected the report and devotion of the government of Republika Srpska to bring the perpetrators of war crimes to justice to result in concrete actions.

Between 7,000 and 8,000 Muslim men and boys were killed by the Bosnian Serb forces in Srebrenica in July 1995. The International criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia said the crime in Srebrenica was an act of genocide.
