ZAGREB, Nov 12 (Hina) - Leaders of Croatian trade union federations, who have recently expressed their discontent with the quality of social dialogue, agreed at a meeting with Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Friday on a number of measures to improve relations between the unions and the government.

Although a meeting between the unions and the PM held in April this year resulted in more frequent meetings, the unions are still dissatisfied with the results of the social dialogue because agreements are not implemented and promises are not fulfilled.

The PM promised the unions today that the government would provide them with better information and include them in certain talks, the leader of the Croatian Trade Unions Association, Zdenko Mucnjak, told reporters after the meeting.

The first test of confidence building will be the pre-accession economic programme in which the unions were promised active participation.

In order to avoid situations in which the unions receive materials for discussions at the Economic and Social Council too late, it was agreed that the necessary materials would be forwarded to the unions a week before relevant discussions.

It was also agreed that the topics of the sessions would be determined in cooperation with the unions.

The participants in today's meeting concluded that social dialogue should be improved by monitoring the implementation of agreements, which Sanader said would be the task of the government's Office for Social Partnership.

The two sides also agreed on regular quarterly meetings.

"We believe that this should result in better relations, and if what has been agreed is implemented, we can start considering a social pact with the government," Mucnjak said.
