BRIJUNI, Nov 5 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic officiated the opening of a three-day Croatian-French Business Forum on the northern Adriatic Archipelago of Brijuni on Friday.

The event pooled 120 business people and representatives of large corporations from France and Croatia.

Addressing the present, Mesic stressed Croatia's orientation towards exports was insufficient and advocated a more intense business cooperation with France and reduction of Croatia's deficit. Mesic said Croatia needed to increase its exports not only to France but to other EU countries.

He said a more intense business cooperation could be realised through tourism and added that this year's figures show that 370,000 French tourist chose Croatia's Adriatic as their vacation destination. The president said Croatia would support French investments in tourism.

Commenting on free zones, Mesic said they could be appealing to French investors for whom better business conditions must be created and added that administrative obstacles for larger investments in small and medium-sized companies must be removed.

An advisor on economic affairs in the French Embassy in Croatia, Veronique Pasquier, also addressed the present.
