"According to the latest information from the American side, Damir Mikulic will be allowed to phone his family, probably during the day," Ljubicic told Hina on the phone.
The Ministry does not have any other information on possible future contacts, Ljubicic said, calling for patience because Mikulic's case was being reviewed.
"The case is being reviewed and if no solid evidence is discovered, this could end well. I would not comment on any details, but I hope that he will be released," Ljubicic said.
Mikulic's phone call to his family was requested by the Foreign Ministry, after the US side granted its requests to provide additional information and make it possible to contact Mikulic.
Some sources have said that Mikulic's questioning before the Bucca Camp review and release board is expected to take place this week, but Ljubicic could not confirm that information. The board is expected to decide whether there are grounds for keeping Mikulic in prison or make some other decision.
The Croatian truck driver was detained by US forces about a month ago for "allegedly collecting vehicle information and personal identification information beyond what is considered of general interest to tourists," the US Embassy said last week.
