CAVTAT, Oct 29 (Hina) - The privatisation of the remaining 25 hotel companies which are still in the majority ownership of the state and the adoption of a law regulating the status of land inside tourist complexes are of key importance for the Croatian tourism sector in 2005.

Tourism and Development Minister Bozidar Kalmeta informed tourist workers of these objectives at an annual meeting of Croatian tourist workers in the southern resort of Cavtat on Friday.

Finance Minister Ivan Suker said that talks would be held with the national bank so as to make it possible for foreign holiday-makers to pay in euros while visiting Croatia as of 2006.

Suker also spoke of the important role of the tourist industry as an exporter in the country's macroeconomic strategy. Last year, tourism revenue covered 80 percent of the foreign trade deficit, he added.

Suker said that the growth of exports in the first nine months of this year was faster than the growth of imports for the first time in the last seven years.

Next year, Croatia is planning to open 48.3 kilometres of a new highway and reconstruct state roads as well as improve connections with islands.

Croatia is planning to build 20 golf courses in the next 10 years in order to improve its tourist services, the ministers said.
