The Croatian Ambassador to UNESCO, Neda Ritz, unveiled a memorial plaque at the entrance to the park on this occasion.
The UNESCO World Heritage List consists of 154 cultural and natural sites from around the world, including six Croatian sites -- the Old City of Dubrovnik, the historical complex of Split and the Palace of Diocletian, Plitvice Lakes National Park, the Euphrasian Basilic in Porec, the historical city of Trogir, and the Cathedral of St James in Sibenik.
Ritz announced that Croatia was preparing a document to propose inclusion of some other sites on the UNESCO list.
