The report says that in 2003 the U.S. donated $1.8 million for clearing Croatian territory of mines planted during the 1991-1995 Serb aggression.
Since 1999 projects financed by the U.S. made close to 3.5 million square metres of soil previously planted with mines safe again.
The report says Croatia has a serious mine problem given estimates that nearly 10 percent of its soil is infested with mines and unexploded ammunition, while mine fields cover approximately 1,700 square kilometres of soil.
The report notes that Croatia's Mine Action Centre recorded 1,320 mine-related incidents between 1991 and 2000 which claimed the lives of 365 persons while 1,281 were injured.
