The minister said the Vuteks employees who went into exile in 1991 when the war broke out felt that the decisions which were made when Vuteks went into receivership in 2000 did not equally treat the employees who stayed to work in the company in 1991 and those who left.
Of Vuteks' 1,600 employees, about 1,000 went into exile in 1991 and they think they were shortchanged in connection with their right to severance pay which was established when the company went into receivership on 12 May 2000, said the minister.
Skare-Ozbolt said she would discuss these workers' labour status with the receiver and competent officials at Osijek's Commercial Court. She added it was necessary to set up a commission that would determine the labour status of the employees who left and their rights in the receivership process.
Asked by the press about the settlement of the labour status of some 4,000 former employees of Borovo, another Vukovar company, who were fired in December 1991 because they failed to report to the management which was in exile on time, the minister said no progress was made in this case.
She added the Government intended to set up a commission that would determine their labour status.
