ZAGREB, Oct 23 (Hina) - Zlatko Benasic was elected Liberal Party (LS)president at the party's fourth election convention in Zagreb onSaturday by winning the votes of 231 delegates, whereas 89 voted foroutgoing president Ivo Banac.
ZAGREB, Oct 23 (Hina) - Zlatko Benasic was elected Liberal Party (LS) president at the party's fourth election convention in Zagreb on Saturday by winning the votes of 231 delegates, whereas 89 voted for outgoing president Ivo Banac.

The party adopted Benasic's concept of the LS continuing to negotiate unification with other liberal and civic parties. Benasic said the final decision on the unification would be made by LS members.

Benasic, who has been Osijek's deputy mayor for 12 years, was elected to a two-year term.

Karl Gorinsek was re-elected LS secretary general.

Banac said after the convention the election of Benasic the new LS president was expected.
