The delegation informed the president about fishermen's problems relating to the fisheries protection zone in the Croatian Adriatic, the fishing fleet, fishing ports and wholesale markets.
Mesic expressed his support for the request of the Guild to join in negotiations between Croatia and the European Union on a partnership agreement on fisheries. This would additionally define fishing rights in order to protect the fish stocks and the economic interests of Croatia and its fishermen.
Mesic said he was certain that the competitiveness of Croatian fishermen would increase considerably with the reconstruction and modernisation of the fishing fleet.
It was said that it was necessary to increase the capacity and improve the quality of the fishing fleet and establish a network of fishing ports with wholesale markets, which would result in the transparency of trade and higher profitability.
