SPLIT, Oct 18 (Hina) - The prosecutor in the Lora prison case, Deputy County Prosecutor in Split Michelle Squiccimaro, has confirmed that the indictment against former eight military policemen will be amended during the trial, in accordance with the request of the Supreme Court which quashed the acquittal passed by the Split County Court at the first trial and which also asked the prosecution to change some segments of the indictment.

"We shall amend it in accordance with the Supreme Court's ruling, during the trial when we start presenting evidence," Squiccimaro said.

The Supreme Court demanded the change of "imprecise and inconclusive parts" referring to the part of the indictment which alleges that "all indictees" are responsible for war crimes against civilians and the death of two prisoners at Split's naval port Lora, and the imprecisely formulated part of the indictment in which Split is referred to as an area of war operations.

The spokeswoman for the Split County Court, Marica Scepanovic, said on Monday it was too early to claim that the retrial would commence in December this year or January 2005 at the latest, which some unofficial sources said on Sunday.

Three indictees, Tonci Vrkic, Ante Gudic and Andjelko Botic, arrested seven days ago, are in custody at Split's Bilice prison.

When arrest warrants are to be issued after the other indictees -- principal indictee Tomislav Duic, Josip Bikic, Miljenko Bajic, Davor Banic, and Emilion Bungur -- depends on when the police will officially inform the Court on operations taken so as to arrest them, spokeswoman Scepanovic said.
