ZAGREB, Oct 6 (Hina) - Croatian government spokesman Ratko Macek confirmed on Wednesday that Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and his Bosnian counterpart Adnan Terzic had met earlier this week as reported by a Sarajevo newspaper.

The daily Oslobodjenje reported in its Wednesday issue that the Croatian government was preparing a new agreement on the southern Adriatic port of Ploce and that the issue would be discussed at a meeting of the Intergovernmental Council for Cooperation between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina in mid-November.

The newspaper also said that Sanader and Terzic had met secretly in Zagreb on Monday.

The two prime ministers expressed confidence that all the outstanding issues could be resolved by bilateral agreements. They discussed redefining certain agreements, particularly those arising from the Agreement on Special Relations between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, which ceased to be operational in 2001, Macek said.

Macek said that the agreements in question were those relating to the use of the port of Ploce and a hydroelectric power plant on Lake Busko and the agreement on property-related rights.

The idea of both sides is that new relations between the two countries should be based on economic rather than political foundations, as was the case with the Agreement on Special Relations, the spokesman said.

Macek confirmed that the Croatian government would draw up a new agreement on the port of Ploce and that it would be discussed at the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Council. He added that the meeting would be held very soon.
