MOSTAR, Sept 27 (Hina) - Croatia's Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister, Andrija Hebrang, visited the southern Bosnian city of Mostar on Monday where he attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the start of final works on the construction of the city's clinical hospital.

The ceremony was also attended by the chairman of the Mostar Clinical Hospital's Board of Directors, Ivan Bagaric, the director of a hospital from the Muslim-dominated east side of the city, Safet Omerovic, and the director of the local aluminium processing plant, Mijo Brajkovic.

The Croatian government has earmarked 16 million kuna (approximately 2.16 million euros) from the national budget for the construction of the main building of the hospital complex. Hebrang said that his government was planning to provide more funds next year to assist with the construction.

The construction work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2005.

Hebrang pointed out that the new hospital should be available to all citizens, regardless of their ethnic background.

Hebrang further said that the Croatian government would also provide assistance to the University of Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina's only institution of higher education teaching in the Croatian language.

On behalf of the aluminum factory, Brajkovic presented the hospital with a donation of about 200,000 euros for the purchase of equipment for an operating theatre.

Later in the day, Hebrang was scheduled to visit the Mostar headquarters of the Croatian Democratic Union party of Bosnia-Herzegovina (HDZ BiH), the University and the aluminium factory.
