The figure indicates a slowing down given that in this year's January-March period the GDP growth rate was 4.2 percent, while in April-June 2003 it was 5.8 percent.
The slowing down in this year's second quarter was visible in all spending categories, except in government spending which, after decreasing for three consecutive quarters, in this year's second quarter went up 0.7 percent.
The slowing down may be attributed in great part to the slow growth of personal spending, which accounts for about 70 percent of GDP.
Under a stand-by arrangement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Croatian government expects GDP to grow this year at a rate between 3.5 and 3.75 percent.
