BRUSSELS/LJUBLJANA, Sept 27 (Hina) - The European Union's High
Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, said
on Monday before departing for Slovenia that in the European Union conflicts
and disagreements are resolved through dialogue, and that he offered to help in
the establishment of Slovenia-Croatia dialogue on a number of occasions.Speaking at a press conference in Brussels, Solana said it was normal
for EU members and candidate countries to have problems, but added they should
be resolved through talks, Slovene media reported.
Solana confirmed that he discussed a border incident which occurred on
the Croatian-Slovene border last week with the two countries' foreign ministers
in New York, but declined to take sides or comment on the Slovene government's
announcement that it would deny Croatia unconditional support for its EU
integration.
Solana reiterated the EU could not allow to have members or candidate
countries which were not ready to settle problems through talks since this was
a principle on which the EU was founded.
