DEFENCE MINISTER COMMENTS ON RETIREMENT OF GOTOVINA'S WIFE

ZAGREB, Sept 24 (Hina) - Asked by reporters to comment on theretirement of Colonel Dunja Zloic Gotovina, the wife of Ante Gotovina,a Croatian general wanted by the U.N. war crimes tribunal in TheHague, Defence Minister Berislav Roncevic said on Friday the decisionwas made after it was assessed that Colonel Gotovina could not furtherdevelop professionally.
ZAGREB, Sept 24 (Hina) - Asked by reporters to comment on the retirement of Colonel Dunja Zloic Gotovina, the wife of Ante Gotovina, a Croatian general wanted by the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Defence Minister Berislav Roncevic said on Friday the decision was made after it was assessed that Colonel Gotovina could not further develop professionally.

Asked if this was perhaps a political decision, Roncevic said the ministry's downsizing plan was not based on political orders or political account-settling.

He recalled that this year's downsizing plan covered 4,880 persons, of whom most were able to exercise their labour rights.

Roncevic made the statement after a ceremony at which members of special land forces were commended for winning international competitions in Slovakia and Hungary.
