"Since we believe that Glavas' insults belittle journalists and coarsely attack the entire profession, we find that it would be advisable for relevant HDZ bodies to make their position on this matter clear," reads an HND statement signed by the association's vice-president Zdenko Duka.
In a statement issued today, Glavas responded to yesterday's criticism of the conduct of some MPs towards the chairman of the Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) Programmes Council, Zdenko Ljevak, and HRT director Mirko Galic, made at a session of the parliament's committee on the media.
Addressing the session, Lucic said that "those who not long ago walked through editorial offices carrying kalashnikovs cannot be role models of democracy and tolerance today". He did not say who he was referring to, but today's newspapers reported that this was an obvious allusion to Glavas.
Glavas said in his statement that he had never entered a media company carrying a kalashnikov, and accused Lucic of being an incompetent reporter seeking media attention.
The HND said in its statement that Glavas' statement showed that the HDZ official was "a politician from another time, when kalashnikovs were indeed sometimes used to settle the situation in media companies, which is why he finds it difficult to adapt to today's changed circumstances".
The HND claims in the statement that there are numerous witnesses to the forcible take-over of media companies.
The association also wonders how it was possible for Glavas to recognise himself in Lucic's statement given the fact that Lucic made no mention of him at all.
In a statement to Hina, Lucic called Glavas' statement unacceptable and an attack on the media.
