LOVRAN, Sept 16 (Hina) - An international conference entitled "The
Witkiewiczs in Lovran - A Hundred Years After" opened in the northern Adriatic
resort town of Lovran on Thursday, marking the first visit of Polish painter
Stanislaw Witkiewicz to Lovran and the 65th anniversary of the death of his
son, novelist Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz, better known as Witkacy.The conference, opened by Polish Ambassador to Croatia Kazimierz Kopyra,
brought together a dozen scholars and experts from Croatia, Italy, Poland and
Slovenia. The event was organised by the Faculty of Philosophy of the
University of Zagreb, the Polish Embassy and the Institute of Polish Philology
at the University of Wroclaw.
The three-day conference will focus on the artistic creation of the two
Witkiewiczs and the circumstances of their stay on the Adriatic coast.
