ZAGREB, Sept 16 (Hina) - The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Family and War Veterans' Affairs and Inter-Generational Solidarity, Jadranka Kosor, on Thursday presented a new bill on the rights of Homeland War veterans and members of their families.

The bill will be presented to the Government later this month and to the Parliament before the end of the year. War veterans' associations have requested more time to analyse the text, Kosor said, adding that the bill was final and that only minor corrections were possible.

Since representatives of veterans' associations have been involved in drafting the bill since the start, Kosor said she did not expect any major objections and expressed hope that the bill would receive support from the parliamentary parties.

The minister said that war veterans would not be able to import a car at a discount, but that this benefit would be restored to the most seriously disabled veterans.

She said that major changes had been made with regard to pension allowances, and that disability allowances enjoyed by the families of soldiers killed in the war would be increased.

Veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder will be granted new benefits. Some illogical provisions from the existing law will be annulled, such as a 30-day deadline for veterans to report that they are suffering from this disorder. The deadline will be extended to ten years.

Kosor said that the annual costs of her ministry would increase by about 100 million kuna (approximately 13.5 million euros) as a result of the implementation of the new legislation.
