"The case of the indicted generals is specific and the best option is what Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica had proposed -- their surrender. They would make it easier for the country, they would make their own position easier and they would make it easier for us to enable their provisional release pending trial. There is also a possibility that their cases be transferred to national courts," minister Ljajic said.
He added that he would try to assure Meron and del Ponte that the authorities in Serbia were ready to seriously cooperate with the tribunal.
By not cooperating with the ICTY, Serbia and Montenegro is risking being left out from European integration processes, the Partnership for Peace programme and other international arrangements, Ljajic said
The ICTY last year indicted military and police generals -- Nebojska Pavkovic, Vladimir Lazarevic, Sreten Lukic, Vlastimir Djordjevic and Goran Hadzic from war crimes in Kosovo in 1999 and crimes committed during the war in Croatia.
