SARAJEVO, Aug 24 (Hina) - Britain's ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ian Cliff, on Tuesday called on Bosnian authorities to establish effective mechanisms to fight corruption which he said hampered the country's path towards Euro-Atlantic integration.

Cliff was speaking at a press conference in Sarajevo where the local chapter of Transparency International presented a National Integrity System Study, which warns that corruption supports a network financing suspected war criminals.

The fight against corruption is related to the fight against organised crime. In Bosnia-Herzegovina corruption is related to a network which supports war crimes suspects, Cliff said.

The British ambassador called on Bosnian authorities to use the findings of the Transparency International study in developing its institutions. He also stressed the importance of investigative journalism in exposing corruption.

According to the results of the survey, Bosnian citizens find political parties to be most corrupt, while they see the media and non-governmental organisations as least corrupt.

The study has found that domestic institutions are operating under constant pressure from the international community and that they are increasingly disinclined to make "difficult" moves on their own.
