SARAJEVO, Aug 31 (Hina) - The head of the Islamic community in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Mustafa Ceric, has condemned the abduction of two French journalists in Iraq, warning that such acts can only additionally worsen the position of Muslims.

In a statement carried by the Bosnian Muslim news agency MINA on Tuesday, Ceric said that the violence against the two French reporters would not ensure the better position of Muslims in Europe. "On the contrary, violence against European journalists in Iraq can only aggravate the position of European Muslims," he warned.

Ceric recalled the great suffering of the Iraqi people and the sad fact that the "dangerous consequences" of the war in Iraq were spreading across the world.

"The present crisis in Iraq and in the Near East in general cannot be resolved by force but only through patient dialogue in which all participants will fully respect one another," the statement said.
