Mesic arrived in Brcko on Sunday morning as part of his one-day visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina. He expressed his support for efforts by local authorities to involve Croatian business enterprises in the economic development of the district.
Mesic also spoke about war crimes committed during the 1990s conflict, saying that all war crimes must be individualised.
The international supervisor of the Brcko District, Susan Johnson, welcomed the arrival of the Croatian president and said that Brcko was an important factor in the economic development of the region. She called on all voters in the district, particularly the Croats, to go to the polls on October 2 and vote in good conscience.
Mayor Branko Damjanac stressed the importance of reaching an agreement with Croatia on education so that children from Brcko could go to school in Croatia and Croatian children could attend schools in the Brcko District.
Damjanac said that the talks with Mesic also focused on the navigability of the Sava river, minor border crossing procedures and economic cooperation.
