SISAK, Aug 26 (Hina) - The majority trade union in the Mechel ironworksin Sisak met on Thursday to discuss the latest developments followingRussian company Mechel's decision to walk out of the ironworks afterbuying it 18 months ago.
It asked the receivership committee whichsold the ironworks to the Russians for one kuna, and of thegovernment, which okayed it, to make sure that Mechel meet itscontractual obligations to employees.
SISAK, Aug 26 (Hina) - The majority trade union in the Mechel
ironworks in Sisak met on Thursday to discuss the latest developments following
Russian company Mechel's decision to walk out of the ironworks after buying it
18 months ago. It asked the receivership committee which sold the ironworks to
the Russians for one kuna, and of the government, which okayed it, to make
sure that Mechel meet its contractual obligations to employees.Union representatives today once again requested to be received by CEO
Nasibulla Mukhtadinov to inform them about Mechel's intentions in withdrawing
from the ironworks, but said he declined to see them.
Representatives of another trade union active in the ironworks urged the
government to enable the ironworks to relaunch production, which Mechel
discontinued in late July, sending most of the 1,620 employees on collective
annual leave.
