LJUBLJANA, Aug 23 (Hina) - The Slovene Popular Party (SLS), whose
candidate at this year's parliamentary election Jozko Joras does not recognise
Croatia's sovereignty south of the Dragonja river, on Monday criticised
Croatian President Stjepan Mesic's statement that "it is intolerable that Joras
should block border crossings and that land frontiers between Croatia and
Slovenia were known because the Badinter Commission had recognised the borders
of the former Yugoslav republics as state borders."That is a scandalous statement and it does not become the president of
a country that wishes to join the EU. We support Joras and his attempts to
formally stay in Slovenia," read a statement issued by the party.
According to the Slovene news agency STA, the party issued the statement
in reaction to Mesic's statement that Joras can move to Slovenia and sell his
house, adding that "Joras is a clown in somebody's service".
