LJUBLJANA, Aug 23 (Hina) - Slovene Foreign Minister Ivo Vajgl has said that he has no illusions about a quick solution to the problem of the sea border with Croatia and that Slovenia still regards the initialled Drnovsek-Racan agreement as valid.

"It's a document that carries weight and shows that the two countries have reached a political consensus. Acting to the contrary would mean burying your head in the sand," Vajgl said in an interview with the weekly Mladina published on Monday.

The minister said he was against "a hyperproduction of diplomatic notes" in communication with Croatia, adding that "the notes make up a body of documents for the final phase when this issue will be resolved either by arbitration or by negotiation."

Vajgl expressed concern about the latest Croatian note "because it speaks of Slovenia's territorial claims". He said that "those are serious words" and that he would like to discuss the matter with his Croatian counterpart.

The Slovene foreign minister said that his country supported Croatia in its efforts to join the European Union.
