SARAJEVO, April 21 (Hina) - Council of Europe Secretary-General Walter Schwimmer, who is on a two-day visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina, met representatives of the Parliament of Bosnia-Herzegovina in Sarajevo on Wednesday to discuss the implementation of reforms in the country.#L# After meeting the chairmen of the Parliament's House of Representatives and House of Peoples, Martin Raguz and Mustafa Pamuk respectively, Schwimmer told reporters that by joining the Council of Europe Bosnia had taken over the obligation to implement as many as 91 reforms in different areas. The reforms refer to the adjustment of national legislation to European standards which is aimed at further democratising the country. The reforms should not be viewed as something the Council of Europe insists on, but as an integral part of obligations which the Bosnian authorities have towards their citizens, he added. The fulfilment of those conditions will mean progress on the road to European associations, Schwimmer said. Raguz confirmed that delays in reforms were identified at the meeting with Schwimmer and that it was agreed that more efforts had to be invested to make up for the delays. Schwimmer is taking part in a summit of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in the Bosnian capital. During his stay he will hold separate meetings with all senior state and entity officials and High Representative Paddy Ashdown. (Hina) rml
