to be a strict judge and a merciless critic of the ineffectiveness of Scotland's judiciary.
ZAGREB, April 15 (Hina) - Lord Iain Bonomy of Scotland, a newly
appointed permanent judge of the war crimes tribunal in The Hague who
will be a member of the trial chamber trying former Yugoslav President
Slobodan Milosevic, is said to be a strict judge and a merciless
critic of the ineffectiveness of Scotland's judiciary.#L#
His devastating report on the situation in the Scottish judiciary in
2002 prompted reforms awaiting ratification in parliament.
U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan on April 12 signed an order
appointing Lord Bonomy a judge of the International Criminal Tribunal
for the former Yugoslavia. The order comes into effect on June 1.
Bonomy will replace British Judge Richard May, who is ill. May
tendered his resignation in late February after presiding over the
trial chamber in the Milosevic case for two years.
