ZAGREB, April 19 (Hina) - President Stjepan Mesic has sent a letter to Prime Minister Ivo Sanader proposing that conditions for the financing and publication of costs of presidential election campaigns be regulated by law, the Office
of the President said in a statement on Monday.

Mesic proposed that the main principles of the bill be based on the
letter and spirit of constitutional and legal provisions regulating
the election of president of the republic, that all presidential
candidates have equal rights, and that the financing of the election
campaign be transparent.
The prompt legal regulation of the financing of the presidential
election campaign may remove the possibility of unnecessary disputes
in public, the letter said.
