SARAJEVO, April 1 (Hina) - The Stabilisation Force (SFOR) in Bosnia-Herzegovina has confirmed that in the night between Wednesday and Thursday its troops carried out an operation in Pale outside Sarajevo to find Bosnian Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic and that two civilians were wounded in the operation.
SARAJEVO, April 1 (Hina) - The Stabilisation Force (SFOR) in Bosnia-Herzegovina has confirmed that in the night between Wednesday and Thursday its troops carried out an operation in Pale outside Sarajevo to find Bosnian Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic and that two civilians were wounded in the operation.#L# We carried out this operation, but we did not find Radovan Karadzic, SFOR spokesman Dave Sullivan said in Sarajevo on Thursday morning. He said that US, British and Italian SFOR troops participated in the operation, during which two persons were injured. The local media reported that a Serb Orthodox priest and his 18-year-old son were wounded during the operation, which started around 1.10 am on the premises of the Serb Orthodox church and parish office in Pale. It is believed that the two were injured when SFOR troops used explosive to open the door to the house where Karadzic was believed to be hiding. BH Radio 1 said that Karadzic was probably to meet his daughter Sonja, who lives in Pale, in that house. The wider Pale area was searched during a helicopter raid which ensued, but Karadzic was not found. The operation, which was carried out by several dozen soldiers, ended early this morning after the troops withdrew and the local police started an investigation. The Bosnian Serb radio and television have reported that tensions in Pale are high and that there is a possibility of mass rallies of local residents. (Hina) rml
