The Interreg III programme envisages transfrontier cooperation between
European Union members, countries joining the Union on May 1, and
countries bordering them.
The Interreg III A programme refers to cooperation between Croatia,
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia-Montenegro and Albania.
Last May the European Commission approved the use of non-repayable
funds from the CARDS programme to finance the participation of
subjects from Croatia. The European Integration Ministry is in charge
of implementing Interreg III A in Croatia.
The main fields of cooperation the programme refers to are the
protection and valorisation of natural and cultural resources, the
development of transport and telecommunications networks, the
upgrading of transport and energy, the development of cooperation in
enterprise and the development of institutional cooperation.
The Interreg initiative was launched in 1990 with a view to developing
transfrontier cooperation between border areas on the EU's internal
and external borders.
