ZAGREB AUTHORITIES IN OFFING ZAGREB, March 12 (Hina) - Representatives of the government of the city of Zagreb and unionists from 11 public companies in the city that went on strike on Friday morning held a round of negotiations later
in the day when they came closer to an agreement.

After the meeting, a representative of the local authorities, Ladislav
Prezigalo, said the negotiators had agreed to continue negotiations on
Saturday, adding that the two sides were now on the path towards
convergence of their positions.
A representative of the strikers, Ankica Svoboda, said the
negotiations had taken the course towards the settlement of the
dispute.
The next round of negotiations is scheduled for Saturday when
Prezigalo expects that the final agreement can be reached.
Employees in the 11 companies took industrial action insisting on a
17-percent pay rise so that salaries in 23 city companies could be
adjusted with those in the city authorities. At the start of
negotiations, the city authorities offered a three-percent rise.
