"When I took up office as interior minister, I encountered a number of
positive projects," Mlinaric said, introducing his associates at a
news conference. He estimated that his ministry was the fastest in
adjusting to European standards.
The minister said that he was only dissatisfied with the relationship
between the ministry and the police directorate, which he said had
created the impression that he was trying to reorganise the ministry.
"But, when I saw that such systems also exist in European countries, I
realised that it was better to change the people than the system," he
said.
He added that the only change in the organisation of the ministry was
the raising of its security department to the level of an
administration, with an assistant minister at its helm.
The minister dismissed claims about the police being politicised,
saying that his cabinet was composed exclusively of experts.
