Zagreb police officials on Saturday held a special news conference on
the case but would not reveal the identities of the abducted person or
his father, details about the case or the amount of the ransom. The
police knew about the abduction from the beginning, but did not go
public with the information for the sake of security of the abducted
person, police officials said.
The son of the retired general and former assistant defence minister
was kidnapped by two masked men.
Police officials also would not comment on speculation that the
kidnappers demanded a ransom of 1.5 million euros and were allegedly
paid a half of that amount.
