CROATIAN-CHINESE BUSINESS FORUM HELD IN ZAGREB

cija ZAGREB, Feb 19 (Hina) - A Croatian-Chinese business forum took place in the Croatian Chamber of Economy's building on Thursday, as an event within a visit which a Chinese state delegation, headed by China's Deputy Trade Minister in charge of investments abroad, Chen Jian, is paying to Croatia.#L# Good bilateral relations are not burdened with any open issue, and this creates room for using potentials in Croatian-Chinese economic and foreign trade cooperation. Meetings of this kind make it possible for the two countries' business people to be better acquainted with each other, said Croatia's Assistant Foreign Minister, David Sopta, who is in charge of economic cooperation. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, economic relations between China and Craotia have been permanently improving, Chen Jian told the plenary part of the business forum. According to Croatia's Central Bureau of Statistics, the trade between the two countries rose by some 58 percent to 410.6 million US dollars in 2003 in comparison to 2002. Croatia's exports to China climbed by 73.7 percent to 4.3 million dollars, whit China's exports to Croatia rising by 58.1 percent to 406.3 million Chen Jian said Chinese business people also showed interest in investments in Croatia, particularly in the sectors of infrastructure, telecommunications, power, electronic industry, construction etc. Preconditions for improving the cooperation in the said fields have been created, the head of the Chamber of Economy, Nadan Vidosevic said, adding that Croatia was in a wide zone of regional free trade and that with the modernisation of its road, railway and telecommunications infrastructure, the country could become a transport hub for Chinese business people who would like to sell their products on a wider European market. After the plenary session of the forum, possibilities and advantages of free zones in Croatia were presented, and a dozen Chinese business people held separate talks with managers of leading Croatin companies including Dalekovod, Djuro Djakovic, Elektropromet, Elka, Exportdrvo, Getro, Ingra, Koncar etc. (Hina) ms
