Good bilateral relations are not burdened with any open issue, and
this creates room for using potentials in Croatian-Chinese economic
and foreign trade cooperation. Meetings of this kind make it possible
for the two countries' business people to be better acquainted with
each other, said Croatia's Assistant Foreign Minister, David Sopta,
who is in charge of economic cooperation.
Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, economic relations
between China and Craotia have been permanently improving, Chen Jian
told the plenary part of the business forum.
According to Croatia's Central Bureau of Statistics, the trade between
the two countries rose by some 58 percent to 410.6 million US dollars
in 2003 in comparison to 2002. Croatia's exports to China climbed by
73.7 percent to 4.3 million dollars, whit China's exports to Croatia
rising by 58.1 percent to 406.3 million
Chen Jian said Chinese business people also showed interest in
investments in Croatia, particularly in the sectors of infrastructure,
telecommunications, power, electronic industry, construction etc.
Preconditions for improving the cooperation in the said fields have
been created, the head of the Chamber of Economy, Nadan Vidosevic
said, adding that Croatia was in a wide zone of regional free trade
and that with the modernisation of its road, railway and
telecommunications infrastructure, the country could become a
transport hub for Chinese business people who would like to sell
their products on a wider European market.
After the plenary session of the forum, possibilities and advantages
of free zones in Croatia were presented, and a dozen Chinese business
people held separate talks with managers of leading Croatin companies
including Dalekovod, Djuro Djakovic, Elektropromet, Elka,
Exportdrvo, Getro, Ingra, Koncar etc.
