PRISTINA, Feb 14 (Hina) - The leading Albanian party in Macedonia, the Union for Democratic Integration, will request at one of its forthcoming meetings with the ruling coalition partners that Albanian be declared the official
language alongside Macedonian in Skopje, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister Musa Xhaferi said on Saturday.
PRISTINA, Feb 14 (Hina) - The leading Albanian party in Macedonia, the
Union for Democratic Integration, will request at one of its
forthcoming meetings with the ruling coalition partners that Albanian
be declared the official language alongside Macedonian in Skopje,
Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister Musa Xhaferi said on Saturday.#L#
Xhaferi told Radio Kosovo he would request that the language issue be
defined in the final draft of Macedonia's law on decentralisation.
"Or request is constitutionally founded since this issue is defined in
a way which guarantees the use of the language spoken by 20 percent of
Macedonia's population. Based on this constitutional clause, we are
entitled to request that Albanian be an official language also in the
Macedonian capital," Xhaferi said.
