According to the information, the SSSH is still the biggest union
federation, with 205,000 members, which is 46 percent of the entire
union membership, SSSH acting president Vesna Dejanovic said at a
press conference.
The SSSH is followed by the Independent Croatian Workers Unions with
87,000 members (19%), the Council of Croatian Public Service Workers
Unions with 49,350 members (11%), the Association of Workers Trade
Unions of Croatia (URSH) with 50,700 members (11%), the Croatian
Association of Trade Unions with 35,525 members (eight percent) and
the newly founded Uni-Cro Service Sector Workers' Union with 20,100
members (five percent).
Union members are counted at the request of the Uni-Cro union so as to
determine the number of union representatives in tripartite bodies.
The findings should be known in a month's time.
The SSSH today presented the results of an opinion survey on the
public's attitude towards unions, which show that 42 percent of
respondents are poorly informed about the work of unions.
The survey, which included 1,000 respondents and was conducted by the
GfK agency, also shows that 35 percent of respondents do not know what
a trade union is.
