ZAGREB, Feb 6 (Hina) - Fugitive Croatian Army General Ante Gotovina,
who is wanted by the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague, has voiced
hope his case will be resolved soon, Vecernji list daily says in
Saturday's issue.#L#
The newspaper says Gotovina's statement was relayed to its journalist
by a person close to the general, and that Gotovina continues to
insist on being interviewed by the tribunal's investigators as a
suspect.
Gotovina's statement comes in the wake of an interview the tribunal's
chief prosecutor, Carla del Ponte, gave on Croatian Television in
which she called on him to appear before the tribunal and said that he
would be granted provisional release immediately.
Vecernji writes that reliable sources close to the general have said
that Gotovina viewed the del Ponte interview as the start of the
solving of his case. He is willing to speak to the tribunal's
investigators any time anywhere if the existing indictment against him
is withdrawn, which the chief prosecutor said was possible, the
newspaper says.
