In a lecture at the Rijeka Law School on Wednesday, the minister said
that if Croatia was granted admission candidate status this year the
criteria of evaluation would become much higher.
She said that independently of whether Croatia joined the Union in
three years' time, her ministry would set to carrying out all the
legal, institutional and economic measures required for admission.
Experts as well as citizens have to be educated as to what EU entry
means, the minister said.
She recalled that all legal acts related to EU association were
adopted in 2003 and that this year would see their enforcement. She
announced that parliament planned to adopt 45 legislative measures and
199 by-laws elaborating the adjustment of Croatian legislation to EU
standards.
